No, I haven’t seen There Will Be Blood, but thankfully pop culture quasi-ruined the ending for me. (also ruined: Rosebud and To Serve Man)
Something. What do you know that after such an un-fetch weekend (oh it was fine, find
just nothing jumped out at me in that way) this would fall into my lap so unexpectedly. Literally a random google search I thought would point me in the direction of another video I was looking for brought up this little gem.

No, I haven’t seen There Will Be Blood, but thankfully pop culture quasi-ruined the ending for me so I could enjoy this clip. (also ruined: Rosebud and To Serve Man) I’m also glad youtube wasn’t around when I was a child: God knows how many songs from the hit shows I sang to myself, not to mention the Hepburn impersonations…….

The Maps for USAicans Initiative

Look, I appreciate the many youtube mashups of Palin and Miss Teen SC as much as the next guy, and not just because it allows me to think of Palin and beauty pageants without feeling like a total sexist. I think that Palin and that poor girl aren’t stupid, and I’m sure they can both find the US on a map. I also believe that people they look up to thrust them both into a much bigger spotlight then they imagined and expected them to perform flawlessly. (can’t you picture the screaming stage mothers/campaign workers in the audience with handmade signs?)

I’m not voting for McCain/Palin, but I have complete faith in her abilities to perform half of her constitutional duties (I’m completely sure that she is capable of breaking a tie). And in yet another completely non-sexist thought, might I dust off the old chestnut of “serving at the pleasure of the president?” (it’s much more palatable to imagine her saying that than Gonzalez……::shudder::)

But now for the above video: in my mind this would be way funnier as a mashup because as much as I can imagine Palin calling for more maps in South Africa, or whatever, I cannot picture her laughing at herself like this. (or appearing in a Weezer video) So say what you will, but in the end it’s all fun and games and it really is unfair to compare a teenage beauty queen to our next VP. Because seriously, Biden in a tiara? No thanks.

Oh, and not to be outdone, Biden has made some gaffs too. But because he’s a man (I guess) they’re more apt to give him a little nickname.

p.s. Caitlin attends APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY, which I’ve enjoyed for years. My head just exploded with this unprecedented coincidence.

All right, what’s fetch?

September 25th, 2008

It is NOT (in google order):

an ftp client for the mac, about it

a kids show on PBS, doctor

some kind of fiction or something I don’t understand,

any of these things,

or a game you play with your dog.

No, fetch is an indescribable quality. The fetch that can be told is not the eternal fetch. In the beginning there was fetch. Life as we know it ultimately is or leads to “fetch” in one way or the other. [reference to Islam deleted] [reference to Hinduism not as funny as expected]

I’m a friend of the samba, but….

What would we do without European commercials? I will say that this is the first time I’ve seen one for a video game, which makes for exactly the strange amalgamation of my peculiar interests that makes me put things up here. Whoop-de-doo.

Thanks Kotaku!

I feel like someone kept this from me intentionally….I mean, LHC has already started up only to be ground to a halt, and yet this must have existed back when Joe Q. Sixpack wasn’t being scared into believing dark matter would steal his children while he was asleep and I only heard about it today.

All kidding (and attempts at enjoying on a purely musical level) aside, it’s fairly well constructed and actually kind of informative. On the other hand, though………what? Really?

What Opera’s Needed Since the End of Castrati

more drag queens.

La Cieca’s blog and podcast (via iTunes)

This is a recent re-discovery: the somewhat trashy opera gossip blog is interesting enough, dosage but the podcast brings free classic (read: not digital) recordings of opera right to iTunes, sickness or your podcast culler of choice. Her commentary between acts is both entertaining and occasionally quite insightful. (she did do the first stream of the Ring: Podderdammerung. Good, right?) The wikipedia page says she’s influential, so it must be true. For me it’s a good excuse to listen to operas and recordings I might not otherwise…

Oh, and it’s pretty gay. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing. And keep in mind that’s in the context of OPERA. Since I don’t want/know how to embed anything of La Cieca’s here, I’ll just have to settle for this other gay opera thing: the best example I can think of isn’t on youtube (yet…) but you get the same character, just not singing. Her aria is WAY funnier and is coming soon….I don’t particularly like the guy who sings here.

Can you help me pretend this is a music joke?

I’m in the process of researching a little piece on the slow decline of music in The Simpsons by going through the whole series in reverse, and I’m discovering all kinds of gems I never noticed before….including this, which I only enjoy by pretending that the writers enjoy making jokes about french secular songs of the Renaissance that were turned into countless masses. I can dream, can’t I??

Hello world! There’s no better way to start this little b-log than with this gem. Basically I found myself posting lots of facebook notes to share things with the people I love that are now so far away, but I got sick of the whole process. Today, I thought of this totally f-tch domain name, it was totally not taken, and now here we are!

Now, need I remind you that:
a) I love TV
b) I love music
c) I have loved TV music
d) I went to high school with this man (we weren’t chums or anything, but he was there)

That all being said, this video is a complete and utter travesty.

Don’t watch the whole thing, it’s too painful. Let me just walk you through my favorite part:
2:05 – transition from South Park theme to Jeffersons theme. Enter gospel backup singers.
2:23 – Baywatch theme. Gospel singers remain, presumably because Hasselhoff makes them feel safe.
2:35 – Brady Bunch theme. Gospel singers stop swaying, I guess because the Bradys sucked their jive away.
2:42 – Cops theme. Gospel singers exeunt hastily. Wait, what?

I don’t need to spell this out people, that’s beyond awkward and deep into WRONG territory. It’s things like this that make me want to never leave the house or turn on the internet again. Coincidentally, it’s things like this that are also making fetch happen, just a little bit at a time, and that’s why this blog is here. To honor those things that every day work tirelessly to make fetch happen for all of us.
